Staying Well when All are sick!!

My family decided to come down for a day as they had an audition to attend at Downtown Disney. the Audition was for one of their agencies that places them in advertisements, videos and other venues such as documentaries. As soon as the audition was over they were ready to go home and loaded everyone up and ventured off toward home. About half way home, they got a call to do a casting so back them came and stayed for the rest of the week. The casting was for only three of them my son, his wife and my granddaughter so my grandson stayed home with me. The photo shoot was at downtown Disney at 1:30 a.m. and they were supposed to be their until 5:30 but were asked to stay for a second shoot so did not get back until late in the afternoon with a granddaughter who was exhausted and not feeling at all well. My son had an awful cold and was also feeling miserable. As a result I am battling a cold today. Now I don’t believe there is a cure for a cold, although an old friend of mine once told me the cure for a cold is eight days. I do believe we can feel better though and diffusing oils always helps me breathe better and feel better.

There are some combinations I really like, especially when I am not feeling well. I combine Peppermint and lemon in the kitchen diffuser. The Peppermint oil is very energizing and helps open up the airways and is supposed to oxygenate the blood. When I have a fever, like today, I rub it on the back of my neck, the bottom of my feet and if I am lucky enough to have someone around, rub it on my back. Peppermint is analgesic, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory, and for me, it soothes my digestion. Peppermint is one of my basic oils that I keep on hand all the time. I put Lemon essential oil in the Diffuser with the Peppermint as Lemon is a great detoxifier. For me, it seems to also work as an antidepressant. Lemon oil is antiseptic, anti fungal, antiviral, and antioxidant. This is one of the few essential oils that I have tried internally. I am not a proponent of ingesting too many things I am not familiar with and take as few medications as possible, but a couple drops of lemon oil in water in the morning seems to help me feel better. I read somewhere where it helps dispel parasites but have not research to support that. That will give me something to investigate further now that the kids of gone home and the house is incredibly quiet.

At the end of the day another must have for me is Lavender and that goes into the bedroom Diffuser. It really helps me sleep and tends to reduce stress. It is all the anti-s too…well at least antiseptic, anti inflammatory, antihistamine and antispasmodic. It is also great for burns and I use it in my healing salve that I make and send to everyone in the family. I also use it in the sunblock I make as I love the aroma when I am sitting in the sun and relaxing.

So now you have my lesson of the day for essential oils. The important thing is to use quality organic oils and keep some basic essential oils in your kitchen or bathroom cabinet. I do have to take back the comment about not ingesting oils as it just occured to me I use all three of these oils and many more in my tea. A drop of lemon, lavender and peppermint with local honey is awesome. Use only local honey to help with any allergies you might have. I buy mine at the local market from a bee keeper who has several different kinds, all of which are marvelous. The orange is one of my favorites. And you can’t beat Tupelo Honey
