Herbal medicine offers some hope at least in the area of prevention. Herbs that are thought to be beneficial are herbs like Ginkgo Biloba. There have been a number of studies that support Ginkgo in helping to delay mental deterioration in both Alzheimer’s1 and Dementia. Ginkgo is a tree and one of the most studied herbs in areas of memory and brain chemistry. It usually takes at least three to six months to notice any results but then can be taken indefinitely.
Another Herb that seems to have some benefit is Rosemary. Rosemary is a culinary herb but also has been valued in tradition medicine for increasing memory. It is also thought to help with concentration. Rosemary leaves are powerful antioxidants. Diffusing Rosemary can enhance the accuracy of memory and speed of processing information.
Herbs that are not as familiar are Ashwagandha and Bacopa. Ashwagandha is often called Indian Ginseng and is often used as a tonic. Bacopa is thought to strengthen the nervous system and is used by Ayurvedic doctors. Bacopa has been prescribed for over 3000 years by those doctors.
